Facet Joint Sprain

“Aches and pains are a common complaint in the neck and upper shoulders, the exact diagnosis will be deduced by your chiropractic”

Neck Pain

The facet joints are located at the back of the spine, they are small joints that help limit excessive movement, and thus they are easily injured. The facet joints have lubrication to make sure they can move easily across each other, these joints are encased in a “capsule” this structure contains pain nerves which become activated when the neck is in danger. Such danger could be prolonged postural stress such as sitting at a desk right through to an acute traumatic injury such as a rugby tackle.

What does a facet joint pain feel like?

When the facet joints become painful it can span from a dull ache right through to a sharp stab. The severity can be very mild to very severe. Pain in the lower neck can refer into the shoulders, whereas pain in the upper neck can refer into the head.
You may feel a restriction in the ability to turn your head to one side, this is often accompanied by pain and apprehension.

How can chiropractic help?

Once a facet joint issue has been diagnosed your chiropractor will explain treatment options, these will often focus on restoring normal function to the joints which in turn will help ease the pain you are experiencing.
